Laminate Floors’ Many Advantages As Opposed To Hardwood Floors
Laminate floors have taken Europe by storm and now South Africans have started to realise all their many advantages too. But why are they such popular substitutes for hardwood floors?
Laminate floors offer these advantages over genuine hardwood floors:
- They cost only a fraction of the price of a hardwood floor because none of the expensive hardwoods are used in laminate floor construction.
- Thanks to a very dense and hard resin-based melamine wear layer, laminate flooring is far more resistant to scuffing, scratching, staining, denting and burning than hardwood.
- They are more moisture-resistant than wooden flooring.
- A laminated floor can be installed either above grade or below grade, or on top of another floor type.

Laminate Floor Tile

A Laminate Floor Tile Is An Engineered Tile That Is Much Cheaper Than Real Hardwood
A laminate floor tile is an engineered tile that has a cosmetic surface that looks just like a hardwood floor, but in actual fact no expensive hardwood is used in its construction.
To make up the core of a laminate floor tile, wood industry waste products (sawdust, wood chips and wood shavings) are ground to a pulp and mixed with a special resin. When dry, this forms an extremely dense fibre board (HDF) that makes for a stable walking surface. Because HDF does not look like wood, it is bonded to a resin-based melamine cosmetic wear layer imprinted with photographs of real wood. Your laminate floor therefore looks to all like a real hardwood floor, but at a fraction of the price.

Carpet Protection Options And Products
Installing carpets in your home is about more than just placing carpeting on the floor. The floor will need to be prepared to ensure that your carpet has a great foundation for lasting longer and not falling victim to serious issues such as mould or rising damp. Carpet protection is something that many home owners forget to consider when choosing carpeting for their homes.
Carpet protection is made an extremely easy task when the HealthGuard flooring installation system is used. This particular system is carpet protection at its best. The following procedure is used when the HealthGuard system, which is exclusive to Top Carpets and Floors, is used:
- The first step is to carefully remove the old carpeting and then use the Healthvac system which is a high filtration vacuum. This removes any possible contamination from the floor’s surface.
- After Healthvac has been carried out, the floor’s surface is sprayed thoroughly with BioGuard Pro. This spray ensures that allergens, dust mites, mould and microbes are discouraged from growing or being present on the floor’s surface.
- Once this is done, the Spillguard underlay is placed on the floor’s surface but below the new carpeting. This provides a protective barrier and ensures that contamination in the future doesn’t occur and that the carpet doesn’t fall victim to rising damp and water damage.
It is vitally important to prepare your flooring surface before your new carpet is laid if you want to ensure that it is able to last longer. Take the time to consider the HealthGuard flooring installation system and find out just how much cleaner the quality of home’s air can be just with one simple treatment.
For information and advice on the various carpet protection options available to you, Top Carpets and Floors is just a phone call away. They also offer a mobile show room to visit your premises with samples, catalogues and a wealth of information and advice on their services and products.
