A Laminate Floor Tile Is An Engineered Tile That Is Much Cheaper Than Real Hardwood
A laminate floor tile is an engineered tile that has a cosmetic surface that looks just like a hardwood floor, but in actual fact no expensive hardwood is used in its construction.
To make up the core of a laminate floor tile, wood industry waste products (sawdust, wood chips and wood shavings) are ground to a pulp and mixed with a special resin. When dry, this forms an extremely dense fibre board (HDF) that makes for a stable walking surface. Because HDF does not look like wood, it is bonded to a resin-based melamine cosmetic wear layer imprinted with photographs of real wood. Your laminate floor therefore looks to all like a real hardwood floor, but at a fraction of the price.
